John William Strutt Rayleigh

John William Strutt Rayleigh John Rayleigh was born in 1842 and died in 1919 He was a British mathematician, physicist, and Nobel laureate, known for his research in pother phenomena. Rayleigh was born in Lanford Grove, near Maldon, England He went to Cambridge University. He served as professor of experimental physics and director of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge from 1879 to 1884 He was in like manner professor of innate philosophical system at the Royal Institution, London, from 1887 to 1905. He became prime minister of Cambridge in 1908.

Rayleigh did research into forcible optics, lig ht, colour, and electricity and the dynamics of ring and vibrations of gas and elastic solids. He was also responsible for the endeavor of electrical units of measurement. In 1894 he and the British apothecary Sir William Ramsay find the inert element argon.
